Conservative local leaders commit to unite in the fight against drug trafficking and criminality
|
The European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) Group in the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) today held an event bringing together local and regional leaders and experts to discuss how regions and cities can unite in the fight against drug trafficking to make local communities safe and secure. Panellists discussed the very serious safety and security threats facing the EU today including organised crime, illicit trafficking and radicalisation.

President Marsilio calls to extend robust support to all industrial sectors facing serious socio-economic challenges
|
President Marco Marsilio is leading the CoR's work on the opinion "A Just Transition for all EU regions" and in his capacity as rapporteur the Abruzzo President is focusing on safeguarding Europe's competitiveness and resilience. For the ECR President, "technology neutrality and a strong involvement of the regions" should be at the core of EU policies to address the plethora of green transition related challenges. In that regard, one of the key demands of his draft opinion is for the scope of the Just Transition Fund (JTF) to be expanded to include other sectors affected by the transition, in particular the automotive and supplier industries.

Ilpo Heltimoinen: without resilience, there is no economic competitiveness

Members of the ECON Commission have today adopted ECR coordinator Ilpo Heltimoinen's opinion on the economic resilience of regions, which urges the European Commission to strengthen economic resilience alongside competitiveness.
