The European Conservatives and Reformists Group in the European Committee of the Regions
The ECR Group is centre-right and euro-realist. It is made up of local and regional politicians working together within the European Committee of the Regions to
- ensure that decisions are taken as close to the citizens as possible and at the EU level only when necessary;
- ensure a strong voice for local and regional government in guiding EU policies in relation to efficient and modern public services;
- encourage greater localism, an improved environment and proportionate regulation;
- endeavour to achieve cost-effective and efficient administration of the European Committee of the Regions.
The ECR Group is an extension of the European Conservatives and Reformists Party, which continues to grow with approximately 78 MEPs from seventeen countries, Prime Ministers in the European Council, and a successful think tank (New Direction).
The European Conservatives and Reformists Group in the European Committee of the Regions was formed on 10 April 2013 and officially announced during the 11-12 April 100th plenary session of the CoR.
