ECR Summit
09 Jul 2026 12h00Warsaw, Poland
General Information
At a time when voter turnout among younger generations remains uneven and trust in institutions evolves, strengthening youth participation is essential to ensure representative and resilient local democracies. The discussion will focus on how local and regional authorities can better involve young people in political decision-making, from participatory mechanisms and citizenship education to digital tools and bottom-up initiatives. Particular attention will be paid to identifying best practices, overcoming barriers to participation and strengthening the role of local authorities as facilitators of youth engagement in democratic life.
Young politicians themselves play a decisive role in shaping future policies and political culture. Their direct involvement in public functions brings new perspectives, innovative approaches and a closer understanding of the expectations of younger generations. Supporting young leaders at local level not only strengthens the renewal of democracy, but also ensures that policymaking is more forward-looking, inclusive and responsive to emerging societal challenges. The event is attended by several young elected politicians.
