During the presentation of his working document to Members of the SEDEC Commission, ECR coordinator Ádám Karácsony underlined that the Green and Digital transition cannot be successful without the EU's policy agenda urgently addressing demographic decline, as demographic continuity "deeply affects the success of the twin transitions and the future of the EU".

EU elections 2024 are a chance to address real concerns of people in rural areas

Speaking in a CoR plenary debate on rural areas in view of the European elections 2024, Mr Lorenzo Galligani stated that citizens in rural areas feel completely disconnected from the policy-making and decision-making in Brussels: "many do not even understand what's being asked of them especially when it comes to some of the most ideological policies of this mandate". Mr Galligani provided the example of the ban on the sale of combustion engine cars as of 2035 to illustrate his point.

Roberto Ciambetti's opinion on tackling plastic pellet losses adopted by unanimity at CoR plenary

The President of the Veneto Regional Council, Mr Roberto Ciambetti, welcomed the new proposal for a regulation on preventing plastic pellet losses during, but underlines that the rules need to be "clear, certain and simple, so that they do not lend themselves to different interpretations by individual Member States and place excessive burden on the public administrations involved".

EU must support families to reduce child poverty

In a plenary debate on strengthening the European child guarantee and child protection systems at the local and regional level SEDEC ECR Coordinator and recently appointed CoR Rapporteur on the Demographic Toolbox Ádám Karácsony stressed that child poverty is "not an isolated issue" but "deeply connected with the wellbeing of entire families".

EU Enlargement cannot be conditional on the revision of EU Treaties

In a plenary debate on the Enlargement package 2023 – Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia, our First Vice-President Władysław Ortyl highlighted that it is unfair to use candidate countries as a bargaining chip by tying their future to the issue of having to change the EU Treaties. "It is also wrong to create the impression that there is no alternative to changing the EU Treaties and that the only future is a more centralised union with a concentration of power in Brussels".
