Speaking in the high-level debate on transport with Commissioner Adina Vălean, held during the CoR plenary session of January 2022, ECR vice-president, Marco Marsilio, welcomed the recent revision of the Trans-European Transport Network, which reflects the multimodality of the transition.
Mr Marsilio thanked Commissioner Vălean and the European Commission for proposing a revision of historical importance for Abruzzo and Italy, which confirms the inclusion of the whole Adriatic Sea in the European networks, from Ancona to Foggia. As a result of a joint application by the Abruzzo, Marche, Molise and Apulia regions, the section Ancona-Bari and the cross-sections linking the Tyrrhenian Sea to the Adriatic Sea were included, as a prerequisite for belonging to a corridor.
Mr Marsilio mentioned that this is a very significant achievement. He explained that "the positive outcome of the discussion with the European Commission confirms how valuable the collaboration is between regions and the EU, to identify the objectives which aim to improve the quality of life of EU citizens and to deliver to the next generations a Europe that is more connected, more modern and greener".
