Member of the Regional Council of Marche and ECR member, Andrea Putzu, has today been appointed rapporteur for the European Committee of the Regions' Opinion on an integrated EU policy approach to support place-based innovation for the green and digital transition. The opinion's main objective will be to review the implementation of the New European Innovation Agenda as well as to strengthen synergies between different levels of governance and various EU policy areas and instruments to support regional innovation strategies.
On his appointment, Mr Putzu stated: “I will work to contribute to the formulation of more effective EU policies that better support regional innovation strategies, with a broader involvement of local and regional authorities, ultimately, facilitating the green and digital transition across Italy and the European Union in a fair, responsible manner.
The Marche Regional Council member views the opinion as a key opportunity for territories, in particular, "to leverage the diverse regional expertise, showcasing successful regional innovation strategies, to promote collaboration and partnerships, and better address specific regional challenges". As rapporteur, Mr Putzu said that he will continue to advocate for appropriate financial support to regions in Europe, to ensure that they can "fully benefit from EU funding opportunities to drive their innovation agendas". "An investment into regional innovation is an investment into the EU's prosperity" – he added.
The appointment took place during the 18th meeting of the CoR’s Commission for Social Policy, Education, Employment, Research, and Culture (SEDEC).
