The 3rd European Games Krakow-Malopolska 2023 were opened by the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda. "This is a special edition of the event, as the Games are being held on the territory of the European Union for the first time. At the same time, it is the biggest sporting event in the world this year. I am convinced that we all feel that it is already making history," said Andrzej Duda.
He added, "sport is a space for noble rivalry, interpersonal solidarity and friendship, and the Olympic ideals are an expression of freedom, peace and respect for human life and the dignity of every person".
In his speech, ECR Member Marshal Witold Kozłowski welcomed all the athletes and guests to Małopolska: "Małopolska is an extraordinary place in every respect! Małopolska is a friendly, hospitable and safe place - it is a beautiful region with a wonderful history. For the people of Małopolska, respect for the dignity of every human being, friendship and tolerance, brotherhood and solidarity - these are the values closest to their hearts! That is why we say no to war! We must be united!"
The Krakow-Małopolska 2023 European Games will feature over 7 000 athletes competing in 29 disciplines. Reports from the individual games are available on the official website of the event.
