Matteo Bianchi calls for prioritising economic growth to promote prosperity and long-term stability in Africa

Today at the Cities and Regions for International Partnerships Forum 2023, co-organised by the European Commission, Matteo Bianchi highlighted the importance of a “territorial approach” to the Global Gateway strategy through decentralised cooperation and partnerships.

"In seeking to strengthen international relations and regional diplomacy, it is imperative to recognise the crucial role that regional and local authorities play in promoting Europe on the global stage" stressed our CIVEX coordinator.

In a debate with Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen, Mr Bianchi also called for strong emphasis on economic development in the EU's international engagements, particularly with African partners, adding that the European Union should focus on creating sustainable job opportunities, build resilient infrastructure and stimulate trade and investment.

"As advocates of responsible and pragmatic multi-level governance, we are in favour of partnerships that harness the strengths of our territories, promoting economic development that benefits the citizens of all parties involved", stressed the councillor of Varese's assembly.

Mr Bianchi also shared examples of some major international cooperation projects of his native Lombardy.
