Continuing the close cooperation between the ECR Groups of the European Parliament and the European Committee of the Regions, our Treasurer and Finnish Councillor in Lappeenranta, Ilpo Heltimoinen, was invited to speak at the ECR Group's Bureau meeting in Finland on the panel dedicated to nuclear power.
"We cannot continue to rely on a single supplier for Europe's energy generation, notably China, which supplies the majority of solar panels and raw materials needed for green technologies in Europe" remarked Mr Heltimoinen, underscoring the need for strategic diversification.
Mr Heltimoinen stressed that "it is not always sunny or windy, so we need other, reliable and low-emission energy sources. In this sense, nuclear will be instrumental in delivering Europe's decarbonisation goals in a secure way."
Concluding, Mr Heltimoinen reiterated the need to pursue our emission reduction goals in the "most realistic way, defending technological neutrality and allowing each country to choose its own energy strategy.
