ECR first Vice-President Władysław Ortyl, alongside ECR members Roberto Ciambetti, Matteo Bianchi, Anna Magyar, István Bóka and Jarosław Stawiarski today attended the 11th Subsidiarity Conference that took place in Warsaw.
The ECR members stressed the imperative need to ensure that future legislative proposals are evidence-based and that the principles of proportionality, subsidiarity and Better Regulation are respected. The ECR delegation also underlined how stronger coordination between different levels of governance can be best ensured by focusing on effectively involving representatives of regional governments in early stages of the legislative proposals developed in Brussels.
"Cohesion policy, subsidiarity and decentralisation working together create a positive synergy effect. In Poland, almost 50% of European funds are implemented through regions and this mechanism works very well. I hope that the conclusions of our debate today will be reflected during the work of the Polish presidency", said ECR first Vice-President Władysław Ortyl.
"The decades of experience in managing the EU funds should give local and regional officials the right to advise the decision makers with their knowledge on which programmes are the most effective" underlined Roberto Ciambetti, President of the Veneto Regional Council.
With regards to the next long-term EU budget, Matteo Bianchi, Member of the Local Assembly of Varese stated that in order to adapt to new spending priorities "it is crucial that the existing rules are fit-for-purpose and focus on reducing administrative burdens and simplifying legislation". said.
