ECR CoR Group First-Vice President and President of the Podkarpackie region Władysław Ortyl intervened during the debate on a renewed Cohesion Policy post 2027 during the CoR Plenary session, when he pointed out that Cohesion Policy should ensure effectiveness and meet the requirement of accountability.
In his intervention, Mr Ortyl focused on the socio-economic challenges faced by the eastern border regions of the EU and on how necessary it is to "provide them with targeted support to strengthen their economic recovery".
Furthermore, he noted how a stronger Cohesion Policy means policy support for dual-use technologies, such as aerospace technologies, including infrastructure and cybersecurity. "By supporting job creation and innovation in these strategic sectors, we can develop important synergies between security and competitiveness objectives, thus supporting a more resilient and secure Europe", he concluded.
