The ECR Group in the European Committee of the Regions has welcomed a new member: Ans Mol, Regional Minister of the Province of Gelderland in the Netherlands. Her entry further strengthens the Group’s presence and broadens its representation among Europe’s regions.
Welcoming the new member, Marco Marsilio, President of the ECR Group in the Committee of the Regions, underlined the political significance of the Group’s continued growth.
“I am very pleased to welcome Ans Mol to the ECR Group in the Committee of the Regions” President Marsilio said. “Her experience as a Regional Minister and her commitment to pragmatic, locally driven policies will be a valuable asset to our political family”.
Marsilio also emphasised the increasingly strong and geographically diverse nature of the Group within the EU’s assembly of local and regional authorities. “The strength of the ECR Group lies in its roots in Europe’s territories. With members today coming from ten different countries, our Group continues to grow both in numbers and in political weight. This growing representation confirms the appeal of our approach: defending subsidiarity, common sense and the vital role of regions in shaping Europe’s future”.
In addition to Ms Mol's membership of the ECR Group, she has also been appointed rapporteur of the Committee of the Region's opinion on the Small Modular Reactors Strategy during today's ENVE Commission meeting. The opinion underlines the importance of innovative nuclear technologies such as small modular reactors, which have the potential to contribute to the European Union’s objectives of climate neutrality, energy security and industrial competitiveness, while mobilising regional and industrial value chains across Europe.
The ECR Group brings together elected representatives from regions and municipalities across Europe who share a commitment to decentralisation and policies that respond to the real needs of citizens and territories.
