Marshal Ortyl presents ECR's priorities in debate on Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU

In a plenary debate with Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Hadja Lahbib our First Vice-President Władysław Ortyl highlighted the three priorities for our group including a call for continued strong support for Ukraine; an end to illegal migration into the EU; and for a genuine respect for the Rule of Law.

The plenary debate with the representative of the Presidency of the Council of the EU, Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Hadja Lahbib, was an opportunity for our CIVEX coordinator to demand a thorough investigation of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) personnel following the accusations that a group of employees was involved in the Hamas' attack on Israel on 7 October.

Roberto Ciambetti in Montenegro to discuss implications of EU-related reforms on municipalities

The President of the Veneto Regional Council Roberto Ciambetti, also as co-chair of the CoR's Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) with Montenegro, reiterated the support for Montenegro's integration into the EU in a meeting held in Kolašin, in the north of the country. "We welcome that the European Council on 14 December reaffirmed its full and unequivocal commitment to EU membership perspective of the Western Balkans" noted Mr Ciambetti.

Ádám Karácsony appointed rapporteur on Demographic Toolbox

Vice-President of the County Council of Pest Megye and ECR Member, Ádám Karácsony, has been appointed rapporteur for the European Committee of the Regions' opinion on "Demographic change in Europe: a toolbox for action". The communication published by the European Commission on 11 October 2023 outlines a policy framework based on four pillars, namely; Parents, Youth, Older Persons and Migration.

Oldřich Vlasák represents ECR Group at COP28 in Dubai

The ECR Group in the CoR was represented in Dubai at COP28 by Vice-President Oldřich Vlasák. As part of the delegation of the European Union and member of the LGMA (Local Governments and Municipal Authorities) constituency, the CoR delegation was present at COP28 to continue advocating for the recognition of the crucial role of subnational governments in international climate negotiations.
