Turning the tide: from crises to new opportunities – sustainable tourism in Veneto

The unstable geopolitical context, war in Ukraine, and the strong economic repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic are leading to a sharp increase in prices, poverty and unemployment and it is exactly in this context that Roberto Ciambetti calls for tourism to be discussed – "but a tourism that can reconcile market needs with environmental sustainability policies whilst most importantly responding to the phenomenon of over tourism".

Energy Performance of Buildings Directive sows serious seeds of doubt for Marco Marsilio

Partnerships for Regional Innovation: Abruzzo, Podkarpackie, Trnava, Veneto and Hungary selected for Pilot Action

The European Commission announced on the 17th of May the 63 regions, seven cities and four Member States selected in the pilot project for Partnerships for Regional Innovation, an initiative developed together with the European Committee of the Regions. Participants in the pilot action are open to share good practices and to co-develop and test tools to mobilise multiple sources of funding and policies, and connect regional and national programmes to EU initiatives for the green and digital transformations. Among the selected partners are the Italian regions of Abruzzo and Veneto, Trnava in Slovakia and Podkarpackie in Poland, as well as Hungary (as a country).

ECR members demand immediate action to assist EU regions helping refugees

On 12 May 2022 the 12th ECON Commission meeting of the European Committee of the Regions was held, and well-attended by ECR members. During the debate on the war in Ukraine the ECR members were very active in highlighting the severe consequences of the war and its economic repercussions. They demanded that strong and swift action be taken.

Pavel Branda speaks at cross-border tourism event on the Russia-Ukraine war and its impact on the tourism sector

"Smart, sustainable and resilient approaches to tourism are needed with more emphasis on interregional tourism", noted Pavel Branda while chairing a debate on the impact of the current geopolitical situation on cross-border tourism. Mr Branda, Deputy Mayor of Rádlo in Czechia, opened the debate highlighting first of all the devastating results of the Russia-Ukraine war, in particular that the consequences of war have reached the EU and most of all the EU countries bordering Ukraine and Russia.
