Roberto Ciambetti: "Montenegro has made significant progress towards EU membership"

The President of the Veneto Regional Council Roberto Ciambetti today received a delegation of five representatives from Montenegro in Venice, for a study visit linked to the activities of the CoR's Joint Consultative Committee, which he co-chairs. "The EU accession process is very laborious and can take years, Montenegro however made significant progress towards EU membership" noted Mr Ciambetti.

EU's Multiannual Financial Framework should focus on strengthening border security and halting illegal migration

The debate on the European Commission's proposal for the revision of the current MFF was an opportunity for President Marco Marsilio to question its key elements. "It is true that Europe has changed unrecognisably since the current seven-year budget was approved in 2020, but it is also true that some of the crises that are now treated as emergencies could have been largely anticipated. Our Group has been calling for years for a more realistic approach to major policy issues, avoiding ideological approaches that have not led to great results".

ECR Members call for tailoring cohesion policy to the local and regional needs

During the debate on the draft opinion on the Future of Cohesion Policy post-2027, the ECR Group's Vice-President and President of the Bratislava region of Slovak Republic, Juraj Droba, highlighted the importance of "incorporating a robust metropolitan dimension" in the post-2027 cohesion policy, and stressed the importance of "upholding the principles of partnership and multilevel governance", as well as "a higher focus on European Territorial Cooperation".
