The European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) Group in the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) will next week hold its fourth annual Localism Summit in the Abruzzo region in Italy. ECR CoR President and President of the Abruzzo Region Marco Marsilio will be the host for this year's edition.

President Marsilio: EU energy policy has failed and needs to be revised

"I think the time has come to reflect on what has made the EU so weak; our energy policy needs particular attention and should be revised". So said the president of the Abruzzo region in Italy and of the ECR Group in the European Committee of the Regions, Marco Marsilio, speaking at the plenary session of the CoR in Brussels, during the European Week of Regions and Cities.

Discussions on the need for new macro-regional strategies

An opinion on a macro-regional strategy for the Mediterranean was adopted at the October CoR plenary session. The opinion addresses the shared challenges the Mediterranean region faces and calls for a macro-regional strategy to be created in order to tackle them effectively. ECR First Vice-President Ortyl congratulated the rapporteur on the opinion he had produced and expressed the hope that strategies for both the Carpathians and the Mediterranean would soon be adopted by the European Union.

García-Gallardo calls on the members of the Committee of the Regions to support "birth rate & family-friendly" policies

The Vice-President of the Regional Government of Castile and Leon in Spain, Juan García-Gallardo, spoke in the debate on the Future of Europe held on 12 October at the European Committee of the Regions. A debate in which the ECR Member stressed that "there is no future without birth rates, strong families, safe borders".
