During the October CoR plenary session Matteo Bianchi, ECR Coordinator in the Commission for Citizenship, Governance, Institutional and External Affairs (CIVEX) and City Councillor in Varese in Italy, represented our group in debate on the Future of Europe with Dubravka Šuica, European Commission Vice President for Democracy and Demography. Our member warned that the Conference on the Future of Europe must not be used to centralise the EU.

Ilpo Heltimoinen elected First Vice-Chair of ECON Commission

Our Finnish member Ilpo Heltimoinen has been elected First Vice-Chair of the European Committee of the Regions' Commission for Economic Policy (ECON) at the Commission´s external meeting on 22 September in Zwolle, the Netherlands. Mr. Heltimoinen, Lappeenranta City Councilor, will hold this position for the second half of the mandate, a total of 2.5 years.

The challenges facing today's cities and regions of the European Union as a result of the war in Ukraine were discussed at the 213rd meeting of the Bureau of the Committee of the Regions, which was held in Prague. Anna Magyar: Serbia is welcome in the EU, the role of local authorities is important

At 1st of September panel of the Centre for Local Self-Government (CLS) entitled ‘Is Serbia on the right track?’, CoR rapporteur Anna Magyar and other participants agreed that Serbia should become a full member of the EU, but the fight against corruption must be intensified, the work of local authorities improved and participation of citizens in passing and implementing of local decisions increased.

New friendships, sport and leisure – Łódzkie organises summer camps for children from Ukraine

Children who arrived in the Polish region of Łódzkie from partner regions in Ukraine have ended a two-week sports camp at the Central Sports Centre in Spała. The summer camp in Dobieszków has also came to an end, where Ukrainian children who had been living in Poland for several months had come to take a break.
