ECR workshop on Just Transition: support regions and business sectors in their efforts

The ECR Group in the European Committee of the Region (CoR) held today a workshop “Ensuring a Just Transition for all EU regions”, during which the ECR Group President Marco Marsilio presented his opinion on “A Just Transition for all EU regions”. The presentation was followed by a debate with the participation of Roberta Angelilli, Vice-President of the Lazio Region, Nicola De Michelis, Deputy Director-General for Programme Implementation, DG REGIO, European Commission, Małgorzata Jarosińska-Jedynak, Member of the Board of the Podkarpackie Region, Poland and Luciana Tomozei, Head of Global affairs and Sectoral policies Division at the Permanent Representation of the EIB in Brussels.

Hungarian Presidency priorities align with ECR vision for long-term success of EU

In a CoR plenary address to Deputy Minister Barna Pál Zsigmond, ECR Vice-President Anna Magyar very much welcomed the priorities of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union whose focus is on European competitiveness, demographic challenges, reinforcement of defence, merit-based enlargement, stemming illegal migration and a farmer-centred agricultural policy.

Ilpo Heltimoinen: strengthening economic resilience requires attention to regional specificities

In an opinion drafted by Ilpo Heltimoinen, ECON Vice-Chair Heltimoinen and Member of Lappeenranta City Council, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) calls on the new European Commission to take action to strengthen the resilience of regions, as it has a decisive impact on their competitiveness and the functioning of the internal market. The opinion was adopted at the CoR plenary session on 8 October.

Demographic trends in the EU are increasingly undermining regional competitiveness and growth. In the opinion led by Ádám Karácsony, ECR member and vice-president of the County Council of Pest Megye, regions and cities addressed these pressing challenges during the Committee of the regions’ Plenary session, calling for coordinated regional policies and for targeted fundings.
